Chapter: 1

I finally got brave enough to read this, and I kind of wish I hadn't. Not because you didn't do a beautiful job with it, but because of my sensitivity to Mike and his pain. I never want to think that Mike has given a moment's thought to following Chester, but I would think it only natural if he had, fleetingly. This is so, so sad. :(

Chapter: 1

Well, now my heart has been ripped from my chest, thrown on the floor and stomped on a few times.

I haven't been very emotional about Chester's passing, but, this story made me cry.

Thank you for writing this :')

Chapter: 1

This was hard. I totally feel where he's coming from. Some days are better than others. Birthdays and holidays always being a bit worse. I think what's really hard here is that he's at his own birthday party and he's surrounded by friends and family - by love - and yet his thoughts are on the one person who isn't there. It's like that old poem about being stranded on the ocean...water, water everywhere but not a drop to drink. That's Mike in this. And the end. I didn't see that thought coming...but I can see where that would cross his mind.

Chapter: 1

Ouch, this one was tough, which you managed to accomplish in so few words.

The part talking about that reluctance to move forward is so true. I've had the misfortune of losing a lot of people in my life, and there always comes a stage where I almost feel a bit guilty about healing, as if I didn't grieve them powerfully enough somehow. It's a bit twisted, because if it's someone who loved you, you know they wouldn't want you to suffer on their account, but grief is a very complicated thing.

That ending wish, though. I didn't see it coming because he was feeling okay. But again, grief is complicated. Mike did say it best when he said, "I get tackled by the grief at times that I would least expect."

Well done, friend. :)
