Take away the pain and misery by MissDomho

AN Hello everyone!! It's official I love AU stories. I guess for a while I am unable to write stories generally about the band with everything that is happened, so I like creating my own world of fiction with the boys of Linkin Park in it. I hope you all understand :) Just want to say thank you all for writing such amazing and wonderful stories! It's amazing to see how active this site still is as I remember the day I accidentally stumbled across it when I was looking for 'Bennoda' pics lmao. And since then It has always been my safe haven to come back to this wonderful site and escape reality for a while and to be honest, it feels so good!

Please give this story a chance. This was kind of a spur of the moment type of thing. I just wrote whatever came to my mind and 3 days later...I have actually finished this short story. It's loosely based off something's that have happened in my life. Not only mine, - but of friends as well.

I will update 'My Guardian Angel' when I find the motivation to re-write the chapter once more again :) might also add that I only have a few more chapters left on that story too! :) so sorry if the next update will be slow :( just when I broke my laptop I broke my hard drive which had my stories saved onto it and well...now they're gone :( but I will rewrite nonetheless as I will not give up! Just a pain I have to start again.

Okay, here we go. Please reviews. Comments. Likes. Anything to keep me at bay will help <3 as I absolutely love all your feedback!

This story contains; a lot of tears and heart ache, Bennoda and slash (of course- honestly I try to tone it down when it comes to slash...- but honestly I just can't lol ;) ), so yes you all have been warned :)

Take away the pain and misery

All Chester could do was just stand there as his heart was ripped from his chest and torn into tiny insignificant pieces that he knew himself he would never be able to put back together. At that moment Chester knew that all the young man had ever known would be changed forever, that all he had hoped and dreamed of would never be. He eventually got the feeling back in his long legs, it was a burning sensation, one that had told him to run away and to never look back on his life again; but the burn was good he thought. It was better than the bitterness and the emptiness he felt inside his shattered heart.

Once the young man got home, Chester had thrown everything he had into his duffel bag and whatever else he could find. He then wrote a quick note for his parents explaining that he had to leave- but only in so many words, he would attach it to the fridge, he had thought to himself. They would find it eventually, when they stopped living their own self absorbed lives and noticed he was gone. By then they'd never find him again. He would never come back, he couldn't, Chester would just have to start over, reinvent himself in a new town with a new life but he could never come back.

One cold and wet New York morning, from a distance you could see a greyhound bus pulling to a stop outside the bus station. The sun was just beginning to peak through the hazy, storm clouds, providing a soft illumination on what was going to be a dull and miserable day. Passengers quickly disembarked off the transportation, all in a rush to meet someone or get somewhere, whilst a young man with short, brunette hair and alabaster, white skin sat in his seat, unmoved.

Chester had nowhere to be, and knew for himself that nobody was out there waiting for him. Chester realised that he was almost invisible, just another human being in a big bustling city. The tears the young man had been silently shedding since he left home 2 days ago had finally subsided leaving him now as he was looking more dishevelled and exhausted then anything. He thought back to the catalyst, the single most heart breaking moment that had changed everything for him. The minute his world had ended.

'Hey Chaz, thanks for coming. I have some really important news to tell you...'

His best friend's words echoed in his head. Chester remembered the look in Mike's eyes. He had always been secretly in love with Mike. They had been the best of friends since they had first met in high school. Chester wiped away a stray tear as he could feel his heart clench painfully from within his rib cage. He couldn't think of anything worse then the pain he was experiencing right about now as he clutched his trembling hand to his chest as he could vividly remember Mike's next words that had literally broken him from inside.

'I asked Anna to marry me... and she said yes! Can you believe it? I'm so fucking psyched.'

It wasn't that Chester didn't think that Mike deserved all the happiness he could get, he earnestly did as he couldn't think of anyone such as Mike who deserved to live in complete happiness. He just just couldn't stick around anymore. Not when every day Chester could feel his heart break a little more. He was sure that Mike would have asked him to be the best man too, but how could he stand there and watch the man of his dreams marry somebody else? so he did the only thing that would try to numb the pain and that was he ran, he ran far away.

It was then he waited until nobody was around, until Chester could disappear without anyone seeing him. It was the only way to leave no trace for anyone to find him; he needed his own space and time. Chester knew that eventually they could catch up with him, but even if he could be left alone for a while he could begin to rebuild his life.

"I'll be okay, I can start again."

Chester whispered to himself, willing his feeble body to stand up and to get off that bus. Chester knew that he could make it. The young pale man had everything he needed to succeed. He knew things could only get better from here, there was no way but up when you hit rock bottom. All Chester had to do is find a dance company willing to take Chester in, and find a job to support him until that happened. He had saved up just enough money and that combined with the trust fund that he had inherited on his 18th birthday a few months ago would mean he could find someplace to stay in the mean tome. It was just his heart that would never mend, and he just had to accept that.

Three years later.

The curtains went up again as the whole auditorium ruptured into a loud applause and there was cheering. The smile on Chester's face was nothing- but genuine. He had finally made it. Three years of hard work had finally paid off for the young dancer as he stood at centre stage gearing the cheering and applause from the crowd before him. It was moments like this that allowed him for the briefest of periods to forget about his past.

He was now fully committed to the present he couldn't think of all that he'd lost once before. The pain, the love, the longing. All the things he had hidden inside were what allowed him to become a great dancer, but when the lights went down to which he got home to his lonely quiet apartment all he could think of was who had left behind back in Los Angeles and that was Mike.

"You joining us tonight Chaz?"

Robert, their youngest dancer asked as he slung his bag over his broad shoulder. Running a hand through his sweaty dark locks.

"I don't think so... I'm beat, maybe next time-" Chester began.

"-Come on! You never come out with us. Its closing night, you were fucking amazing, lets have a few drinks with everybody else at a club and just cut loose. Your always so reserved and to yourself. Just once join us, please...you never know, you might find Mr. Right there?"

The young brunette was slightly taken aback, he didn't think he was that bad. Besides the idea of finding a young, hot piece to share the night with sounded enticing for young Chester as it had been a while for him.

"Fine! As long as you quit your nagging"

He smiled. They headed out of the changing rooms and out the back exit. Robert yelled to the group congregated outside "Hey guys, look who I managed to convince to come!"

Chester playfully shoved his friend as everyone mock bowed and applauded Chester, "... so where we headed?"

Rob shook his head slyly smiling with a cunning gleam in his eye "Nope, not telling, you'll find out soon enough." With that the crowd slowly started heading out in groups Chester joining Robert, Joseph and Heidi.

Joe and Heidi were the lovebirds of the company, they'd fallen in love in junior year of high school and had been together ever since then. Joe was an accountant that worked for the dance company, whilst Heidi was an aspiring dancer just like Chester was. They were fortunate to work for the same company and were glad that things had worked out the way they had planned.

Heidi being the mother hen she was constantly mothered Chester and quickly became one of his closest friends. Chester was pulled out of his reverie as the car engine cut off. Chester peered out of the window seeing the neon lights of the club 'Pieces' just down the road. 'Pieces' was probably the hottest gay club in town at the moment. It was a place where all the hot and happening liked to hang out.

"Wow, we'll never get in..." Chester exclaimed once he caught sight of the exponentially long queue.

"Don't worry, we're on the guest list." Rob explained.

"And just how did you manage to do that?" Chester asked incredulously

"It's one of the many perks of hooking up with the manager... remember that guy I was telling you about last couple of weeks, well it just so happens that he is the manager of this club." Rob smirked, Chester earning a sly wink from Rob now which made the older male return the smirk. When it came to Rob and his sexual escapades, he was completely insatiable.

It was then they all headed to the front of the line Chester feeling a little embarrassed by the bitter remarks of those waiting in the line. Once at the front the grandiose entrance Rob walked up to the bouncer as then began to whisper to him, close to the bouncer's ear. He turned around grinning widely now as the velvet rope lifted allowing the group to access the club.

Pieces certainly lived up to it's reputation, the atmosphere inside was electric, the deco was classy and chic, and the music was pulsating as it vibrated against the walls. It was exactly what Chester had been missing but didn't know. He was so enclosed in his misery he was missing out on so much, but not tonight, tonight he would cut loose like never before.

The drinks kept flowing in a continuous stream from the countless shots to Chester's drink of choice vodka and coke. The young dancer was really having a fantastic time, and the selection of men to look at was simply divine.

"Lets dance!" He encouraged the group of friends.

"Can you even dance to this music?" Joe joked.

Chester just stalked off towards the dance floor like he owned the room, throwing a smirk over his shoulder now. If he could see himself he would have been glued to himself like almost every other person in the building, it was graceful, seductive, sensual and a little bit intimidating. By the time he reached the dance floor, the next song started playing not that it made much of a difference seeing as though the songs carried out the same repetitive beat to the sound of each songs. He just spun on the spot and suddenly his body came alive gyrating his hips in a hypnotizing motion.

He looked back towards the booth where everyone was sitting, staring. Rob's mouth was gaping open now; others were in similar predicaments as they all were in shock that the uptight lead dancer could dance like that.

Once Chester had hit the dance floor he didn't leave for almost 2 hours, everything was a blur of various dance partners all trying to hold his attention, all mesmerised by the young dancer that captivated their hungry eyes.

As the the next song started up once again it was then Chester began to walk off the dancefloor deciding he would retire for the night seeing as though it was getting pretty late now that was before he could feel a solid chest pressing up against his back now, the young dancer's body responded on autopilot grinding his ass against his latest partner's hips. As he stretched his arm behind him to caress his latest dance partner's neck.

The man that held Chester close to his body felt warm and comforting, his peripheral now surrounded with the familiar scent as he slowly opened his eyes once he heard the mysterious male that held him close to his own body spoke, lowly in Chester's ear. Sending shivers from right down his spine.

"What are you doing?"

The voice immediately stilled Chester ; the voice was one he could never forget even if he tried, one that haunted him every night when he lay awake in his bed. He froze, and slowly started trembling, Chester felt his face flush and tears start to prickle his eyes.

Just as Chester started to react trying to get away, strong arms grabbed him by his shoulders spinning him around almost sending the young dancer to the ground- but the darker male was much quicker then Chester with his own actions as he pulled Chester close to his body, grounding his taller body into Chester, inabling the smaller man from moving far away. Chester hesitantly, looked into those eyes for a fraction of a second only to turn away as he tried to push himself away from his former half Asian friend once more again which only had Mike tighten his grip on Chester.

"Mike, what are you doing here, how did you find me?" He croaked. Suspecting Rob had something to do with this since it made sense for the youngest dancer had convinced Chester to come along tonight.

"Now is that any way to greet your oldest best friend?" Mike accused. Hurt evidently flashing in his large, dark eyes.

"Sorry, former best friend, otherwise you wouldn't have got up and left the way you fucking did. Like I never existed or mattered to you at all. Do you know what it did to me?" Mike shouted his response, as for a moment Chester the young man began to tremble trying to pry his tired body from Mike's grip which only made his friend tighten his grip even more, his breath so warm against his lips.

"Sorry to interrupt...is everything alright? Ches, you okay honey?" Joe's girlfriend; Heidi asked having noticed Chester's panicked expression earlier as she decided to come to her friend's rescue once she noticed Chester was being held against his will. She turned towards Mike, eyes glowering now as she shoved Mike off Chester now to ease his grip on the smaller man. "And who are you holding him like that?"

"Its none of your business, sorry to be rude but this is a private conversation between me and Chester. Not you!" Mike snapped, gritting his teeth. His eyes matching Heidi's now.

"Well seeing as Chester is here with me and I don't know you at all- but I do know for sure you were hurting my friend, I think it's very much my concern!" Heidi retorted beginning to lose her cool.

"Heidi it's fine, just give us a second, I'm sure that Mike will say what he needs to say and be gone after. I'll be okay." Chester stammered looking far less certain than he hoped he would.

It was then Heidi did a double take of the mention of the name Mike. Of course she knew about Chester's little crush, she had goaded Chester about being single for weeks until he had broken down and told her everything. She gave Chester one last sympathetic smile and started to walk away but not before telling him to signal for reinforcements if it was needed.

Finding courage he didn't know he had Chester stopped fighting against Mike, he relaxed enough that the half Asian man loosened his grip on him as Chester took a deep breath and looked up into those hauntingly dark eyes.

"Do you mind letting go? I'm not going anywhere."

Mike hesitated for a second but the intensity in Chester's eyes spoke volumes and he released him from his iron grip.

"Why did you leave? You didn't even say goodbye..." Mike whimpered, under the sounds of music Chester was lucky enough to be able to read lips, it pained him to see Mike looking so broken, almost reminding him what it had been like for him many years ago from when he had left Mike with a broken heart.

"Look Mike it's complicated, I was stuck in a position that was slowly killing me. I-I had to get out, and I knew that if I told anyone where I was going or planning on doing sooner or later I would have been dragged back home and be right back in the same position."

"You could have come to me, Ches, I've never accused you of anything. I have ALWAYS been there for you for fuck sake. I would have helped, been there for you..." Mike grouted. His eyes glowering in his defence.

"The last time I saw you, you told me you were getting married to Anna. I couldn't drag you into this mess with me. I just needed a clean break for myself. I'm happy now and now I know I'll never come back. I've moved on with my life, and so have you!"

"Well your coming home! This important! Thanks to your friend Rob I managed to finally track you down" Mike growled. To which Chester flashed Rob a look to say he was going to have a few words with him later on. He could see from the distance that his young dancer friend had suddenly disappeared from the booth they had all been sitting at as Chester let out a low grumble to realise that Rob was now missing from the group as suspected Rob must have went home with someone for the night.

"I can't fucking leave! We're just about to start rehearsals on the new production we are all working on, it's a bad time, and I don't know what could be so important that I'd need to drop everything and go home for so 'family reunion'-"

"Your...Mom and dad were in a car accident, they're both dead!" Mike had finally snapped.

Chester immediately paled, all the fight left his body as he began to crumple to the floor. He was suddenly enveloped in Mike's strong arms, those warm comforting arms. He took a choking breath as the familiar smells that were Mike favourite cologne combined with a fragrance that was entirely Mike. All of a sudden Chester felt like he was suffocating on it, the young dancer took a deep shuddering breath and passed out.

Chester slowly roused himself from the darkness that had enveloped him; he could hear someone faintly calling his name.

"Ches, honey... wake up!" His eyes finally began to focused as he looked up into Heidi's deeply concerned eyes.

"H-Heidi. What's going on?" Chester began as his shifting eyes finally found Mike and the news finally began to sink in. his breath caught and he let out a strangled cry. Chester started sobbing and didn't object as Mike pushed his way through small crowd and lifted him into his arms. He then wrapped his arms around Mike's neck allowing him to carry him out of the club. The warmth crushing against Chester's trembling body simply grounded him as he knew he couldn't quite trust himself to walk just yet. Upon hearing the news about his parents, it had literally broken his heart.

Chester faintly heard his Asian friend talking to Joe, Rob was no where to be seen, as he was placed in the back of the car. Heidi joined him in the back seat.

"I have to take him back..." he heard Mike explain to the young Korean girl that was seen sitting close to Chester, this time running her hand through his sweaty locks in a soothing matter. Whispering sweet musings to his ear.

"Well we're all coming with you. Don't mean to be rude but you don't know Ches like we do!" Heidi replied, almost as if she was challenging Mike now.

"Look, I've known Chaz nearly all my life. I'm sure I know him far better than you ever will!" Mike snapped at Heidi's comment.

"Do you even know why he left?" Heidi barked... There was a long tensed pause in which Chester shuddered thinking Heidi would betray his trust and confidence in telling Mike how he truly felt about him. He began to object stuttering and crying even harder now. Breaking their intense eye contact at each other as both Heidi and Mike casted a look towards their friend who was sobbing loudly now.

"Shh honey it'll be okay" Heidi whispered before turning back to Mike.

"You may have known the old Chester, but we were here to pick up the pieces when his world fell apart. We are his family now! He need us more then anything and whether you like it or not we're not leaving his side...for any reason" She finished, Chester shuddered at her words, feeling his heart sink as truly he never meant to have made anyone mad tonight.

"Fine..." Mike sighed.

Chester snuggled more into Heidi now, failing to see the hurt flash across Mike's deep brown eyes- but knowingly Heidi crossed her eyes from Chester to Mike to see the young half Asian man looking slightly lost to see his former old friend would rather choose the comfort of Heidi instead of him. Sleep ascended Chester's body now as he couldn't help the tears that were now flowing so freely from his eyes.

Chester was seen standing in his old bedroom now; it was exactly how he left it so many years ago. He let out a sigh as he put on his black suit jacket and began to fix his tie in place. The last few days were a blur for the young man as family friends had paid their condolences and planning the details of his parents' funeral. Chester had never really had the best relationship with his late parents; he was the bi-product of two career driven individuals that had never been around to take care of him and still he felt some sort of loss knowing that he was truly and forever alone now.

Chester hadn't really been in touch with his parents since he had left for the big Apple, just a few emails and text messages, mainly telling them he was okay and when they asked if he would ever come home in his response was always no, everyone, despite of their pleading for him to come home. He felt somewhat guilty that he hadn't seen them one last time, but he knew that if he came home he would have had to face Mike, and that was something he never had the courage to do. There was a hesitant knock on the door.

"Ches? Everything alright in there?" Heidi asked.

"Come in" came his reply.

Heidi appeared in the doorway now dressed in black as slowly she began to walk him into the room, smiling tensely at her friend. He quickly walked up to the young girl and wrapped her in a tight hug.

"Thank you so much... I couldn't have done this without you, you know? I would have never been able to face everything, everyone....Mike alone without you."

"That's alright Hun. That's what friends are for. Besides, once this is all over we'll go back to New York and you'll never have to see Mike again." She said into his hair. Holding him closely into her smaller body.

Chester jerked up as he heard the door slam shut behind Heidi the moment her words left her lips. Peeling Heidi off him it was then Chester rushed to open it and peered outside to see Mike walking away. He cringed as he saw the half Asian rushing towards the stairs now and knew that he would have to say something to him before he left. He sighed and rubbed his temple.

"Damn it!"

He muttered looking at Heidi now, he saw the hurt written on her face "I'm sorry, its not your fault at all. I was just hoping I wouldn't have to speak to him, I don't think I have the strength for it." He explained.

"Its okay, but I really think you should talk to him though, try and explain things to him as he deserves to know why you left. I can see that he cares for you. He's been here every moment he could and he looks like he's hurting just as much as you are, Chester."

"I know. It's just that I scared that if we're alone together I might do or say something stupid to him. He has a life, a family now no doubt. I'm not selfish enough to do anything to ruin that for him at all. That's part of the reason I decided to leave."

"I'm not going to meddle with you your life, Ches, it's just that it seems to me that you need to get some kind of closure in order to move on with your life." Heidi couldn't say more than that. She needed Chester to make to his own decisions when it came to his friend Mike, but she needed to nudge him into talking to Mike, there was definitely something going on between the two of them that Chester wouldn't let himself see.

"You ready to go?" she asked.

Chester took a deep calming breath and sighed "Not at all, but I think its time."

The funeral had been a small intimate affair with a few of his parents' closest friends; Mike and his parents had been there, as well as Heidi, Joe and Rob. Chester only vaguely realised that Anna hadn't been there on Mike's arm, but then again Chester and Anna weren't the best of friends so why would she even bother to pay her respects for him and his parents'. She had always felt tense around Chester, like she knew about his feelings for her boyfriend who latter her husband; Mike- but she had never said anything and Chester thought he kept his feelings pretty well hidden.

As the last of the guests left the house Chester realised that Mike was still here and talking to their other close friend from school; Bradford Delson, that was seen with his wife, it had been nice for the young dancer to catch up with his friend Brad that late afternoon. He was about to make his way over to his old childhood friends; Mike and Brad when he could sense someone beside him that caught his attention simply by clearing their throat. Turning around it was then Chester was met with an elder gentleman wearing his best gear made Chester suddenly realise the older man had been looking for him.

"Hello Mr. Bennington, I am Mr. Wilston. I was your parents' lawyer. it is nice to meet you- but on such unfortunate terms I am afraid..." The older man exclaimed who was now identified as his parent's lawyer spoke softly. Extending his hand out it was then Chester grabbed it as he hesitantly shook his hand, before breaking his contact with Mr. Wilston once he dropped his hand to his side.

"I am terribly sorry for your loss, Mr. Bennington, I was wondering if you wouldn't mind getting the formalities out of the way as I am leaving town tomorrow and I know you're planning on heading back for New York as soon as possible for yourself."

"Sure," Chester slowly and unenthusiastically walked over to the couch and sat down. Mr. Wilston following close behind.

"This is the last will and testament of Susan and Lee Bennington." Mr. Wilston had then proceeded to read the will. Chester's parents had left everything to him, the house he grew up in and a large sum of money, which meant Chester would never have to worry about his finances again. It was just unfortunate circumstances for Chester of just how he came into such a large sum of money.

There's one last thing," Mr. Wilston finished. "Your parents had asked me to give this to you, they explicitly said it is for you and you alone. Thank you for your time, Mr. Bennington, I can show myself out now." With that he stood up slowly as he then proceeded for the exit, leaving the young man alone to collect his thoughts now.

Chester tried to swallow the large lump that was forming in his throat as he stared at the envelope that had his name written in his mother's handwriting. Tears silently fell down his cheeks, wetting his skin now. He wasn't even aware that through his blinding tears, Mike had came rushing over to his side before he was now seen sitting closely next to Chester. Running a tender hand along his back.

"Chester..." Mike began hesitantly. "I have to go, I know you've been avoiding me and have no desire to speak to me at all- but there are a few more things I need to say before you leave. I'll be back later tonight"

He frowned looking at his hands. Which Chester was silent for the most part, unable to find his voice. It was then Mike cleared his throat once more again, sounding slightly nervous when he spoke again.

"Make sure you're alone too" Chester began to object but the sheer desperation in Mike's voice when he said, "this is important." Made Chester's heart clench and all he could do was just nod still looking at the letter in his lap. With that Mike got up and left Chester until he was alone once more again.

For the last couple of hours Chester had sat on the couch staring at the envelope trying to work up the courage to open the letter he had nestled between his palms. Heidi and Joe had let Chester know that they would spend the night at a hotel to give him the space he needed for his conversation with Mike that would happen tonight. Before they had left Heidi had grabbed Chester and hugged him whispering, "You can do this. Just trust yourself a little more, Ches and if you need anything at all, all you have to do is call, we are always here for you." After which they left Chester to read the letter from his parent's and to face Mike alone.

AN I know this is a bit random...I promise good things will happen! Maybe ;) hahah! I can't help myself, once I start writing I can't stop and write whatever comes to my mind...and I've had this idea for a while. It's based on some past experiences from my past and of my friends too...anyway, thank you so much for reading...Should I continue? :) thank you for your time! <3
