New Beginnings
"And we have arrived," Chester declared happily as he opened the door. For the last 20 minutes he'd led the way to a comfortably big house hidden deep of a forest.
As of today, well technically yesterday since that's when they were told, the Linkin Park coven has gained three new members in the form of Alex, Emily and Colin. It was a process that took a reasonable number of months to discern whether or not they would be a good fit. Both parties wanted to make sure everything was on the up and up. Especially since the three had bad experiences with covens in the past in one way or another.
(Honestly the probationary period went by in a blink of an eye.)
For Chester and the rest of the Linkin Park coven, they just wanted to be sure the latest members weren't going to be Assholes of the Century pretty much. Like Sean Dowdell and Chester's ex Sam for instance.
The less said about them, the better.
Thankfully it worked out in the end much to the elation of Emily and Colin, Alex couldn't be happier for them. From when he learned of his newfound friends, the two were born into a coven that was all the ways a coven shouldn't be. It was basically an oppressive, controlling cult but magic.
This would be the first designated coven that actually exuded love and kindness. One where both Emily and Colin would be treated as equals, no more women witches were only good as healers and potion makers bullshit. Emily can finally learn how to utilize her control over electricity to its fullest potential.
This coven was a first for Alex too. Finally a coven run by people who weren't either scumbags, idiots or both. And it an independent coven to boot. No longer did he have to abide by any of the stupid arbitrary rules set forth by the Elders who run the International Council of Witches. Nor pay any membership fee. Apparently the idea that a coven had to pay in order to be considered official was a modern capitalistic invention.
"Its all fucking bullshit. It's nothing but outdated rules that should've been done away a century ago but it isn't cause tradition," Alex rolled his eyes during a rant of his several months ago, "Did you know the non magical world is more progressive in some ways then the magical world is?! It's fucking embarrassing the differences is."
(There was a reason Alex broke off from the magical community at large to live among those without magic. Which was easy enough since that was most of the world.)
"Welcome to Casa de Linkin Park!" Chester finished as he closed the door after the three newest members walked in, "Your rooms are upstairs and if things start to seems impossibly bigger on the inside then its because it is. We've done a spell years ago when we got this place to increase the capacity of some of the rooms. And a few of them lead into a hallway with even more rooms. It can be overwhelming but you'd get used to it."
"Are we allowed to explore any of it?" Colin asked anxiously. He didn't want to tread into dangerous waters right off the bat and get thrown out on trumped up charged within two minutes.
Chester beamed as he spoke with sincerity, "Of course! This is your place too, feel free to explore. I'd just suggest using a map with you, its too damn easy to get lost after a certain point. And for future reference don't feel bad if you still have to use it a year or two from now. We do and we lived here for literal decades."
The three were dismissed so to speak a moment later to head up to their rooms. On each of their beds was a welcome gift basket and a folded pamphlet that summed up all of the major rules in four words: Don't Be A Dick.
And because magic made certain things easier, they were able to quickly transform the aesthetic of their room to match their personalities. It's also why Alex has a quote unquote 'closet' to store his perfume collection. And why there was a small state of the art coffee making station in the corner of his room.
"I didn't want it to be too much but I like my coffee in the morning," Alex explained as he showed the other two newcomers his room.
"This is bougie as fuck," Emily commented as she looked around. The vibes were less 'a modern bedroom in a quaint farmhouse' and more 'luxurious and very rich'.
"I could've went all out but I really hate to be obnoxious," Alex said. Admittedly he was already getting seconds thoughts. If there was one thing he hate to come off as, its wealthy billionaire who has no regard for the common people, "I should even tone it down. I'm starting to feel like I'm part of the elite rich assholes of the world."
"You can always hide it behind a magic door like your perfume room," Colin said with a shrug. He can't really have anything
"Hmm i could but like I said," Alex turned around to face Colin and Emily, "I don't want to be pretentious."
So while Alex worked on his room for the next several minutes, Emily and Colin went downstairs. Some of the coven members were at work while the rest either had a day off or worked from home. In fact it explained why the three were able to move in a day early, it was a combination of slow season at the tattoo shop and time off from their jobs for Alex, Emily and Colin.
Eventually it was time for the new members to get added into the magical contract that any coven worth their salt have. Unlike most it was done with little fanfare and, much to Emily and Colin's relief, there weren't gonna be any bullshit regulations added to the mix. No potion quota, no annual membership fee or other unnecessary rules. Just your standard power boost and protective benefits that came with being part of a magical group of witches.
Then the rest of the day was theirs. So while Alex went off to hang out with Joe, Emily and Colin set off to explore. Chester told them he'd be in the kitchen cooking up dinner as a housewarming celebration should they have any questions or concerns.
They didn't have to go too long before they ran into another member, a tall man with chin length brown hair and a beard. And familiar too as Emily and Rob met plenty of times before during the trial period.
The only ones they haven't met in person yet was Mike, Brad and Anna.
"Oh sorry we didn't mean to bother you," Emily apologized as they stood in front of one of the magic related workshops they have, "We were just looking around."
"Its so cool how this place is so much bigger on the inside," Colin softly laughed with a boyish type of grin.
"It's alright no problem. You guys can come in if you want," Rob said with a friendly smile. There was a ladle in one hand and a little glass bottle in the other, "I've just been restocking on our healing potions."
Underneath the window across from the door was a black caldron on top of a wooden table. Sunlight shone through and bathed the room in a bright and cozy glow, a refreshing changed of vibes from the sterile, clinical workshops of their birth coven.
On the other side of the caldron was a humanoid being who was in the process of carrying one of the filled vials to a small container off to the side. Naturally this caught their eye and they walked closer to take a look in curiosity. The two recognized him as Brad since they talked to him plenty of times via video call, they just haven't met them in person yet.
And it was the same deal with Mike and Anna. Maybe they were fairies which would make sense given there's always been a feud between some of the witches and fairies out there. And to this day, some of them still hold an age old grudge against one another. Maybe the rest of the coven were worried they would have some weird problem with the new witch members. But on the other hand if they had any prejudice against them, then they'd most likely refuse to mingle with any witches and since they were part of a witch coven then jury says they love everybody to put it simply.
Plus it didn't make logical sense. Even from the first time they talked to Brad as well as Mike and Anna, they automatically got on like a duck to water. Hell Colin and Mike might as well be old buddies from back in the day with how they talked about various bands, instruments they play and favorite songs. And besides anyone magical holding on to an ancient grudge tend to be older and more narrow minded in their views.
"Hey Brad," Emily greeted with a friendly smile as soon as he came into view. It was obvious he was an adult man, just of the size of a barbie doll.
At almost the same time Colin switched his gaze to Rob and asked with genuine curiosity and awestruck eyes, It's been a long time since he'd seen one of the winged folks in the wild, "Is he a fairy?"
There didn't seem to be any wings on his back but then again most fairies tend to hide their wings when they aren't using them or for other valid reasons.
"No he isn't," Rob said. He wasn't unfazed by the question and neither was Brad for that matter, "He's a non magical human who unfortunately got cursed."
Rob then went on to explain how during their tenth high school reunion party Brad, along with Mike and Anna, were cornered by a witch named Sean Dowdell. Apparently the guy was resentful and jealous of Mike over his various achievements in high school, plus Sean also thought Mike quote unquote 'stole his girlfriend'. As for Brad, well, he was caught in the crossfire when he tried to defuse the situation and protect his friend.
"…we manage to break the hex but unfortunately we can't grow them more then three and a half feet. Our strongest theory is that Sean fucked up the incantation when he cast the spell," Rob finished the explanation, "Either that or we screwed up somewhere. Honestly that's a possibility, but either way, the spell we used to break the curse should've broken it completely."
Needless to say, as Rob said, they were still working on it.
It was 2005 and what was once thought of a fun celebration for the class of 1995 at Agoura High School turned into a night of chaos.
It ultimately started when Sean decided to enact his insane revenge plan, they wouldn't be in the mess if he had been a sane and rational person. Point being the moment that sealed the fate from low key to full blown low scaled pandemonium was when Rob tackled him hard into the ground in the hallway. Just seconds prior he caught the sight of dim red colored magic from the corner of his eye and turned just in time to see his friends huddled together as they started to shrink.
"What the fuck did you just do?" Rob yelled angrily as soon as he got back on his feet and into position. He was ready to use his specialty in mind powers to its full potential.
"Payback that's what I did!" Sean spat after he got back on his feet. He clenched his fists as he glared at Rob with years of bitter hatred behind his eyes, "Mike ruined my life so I thought I return the favor. It should've been me for class president. Should've been me for Valedictorian. And it should've been be me chosen for the scholarship to Art Center College."
With each vitriolic sentence he spewed Sean stepped closer to Rob. Simultaneously the latter began to take a few deep silent breaths in order to build up the psychic energy needed to blast Sean away. The more space between him and his close human friends, the better.
"Then I thought hmm what would be a good way to give him a taste of his own medicine, so I decided to shrink him. That little half fried panko stole my life," Sean finished with a forceful shout as he shot out a hand and let loose an invisible blast directed at Rob.
The result was Rob being violently thrown back several feet into the air which ended up with him rolling to a stop just past the threshold into the gym. This suddenly development effectively brought the entire good time festivities to a complete dead stop as people began to look in great confusion and panic. A half circle of people formed as Mark and Dave rushed to help Rob get back on his feet.
At the same time Joe took notice of what was happening. He watched in horror as Sean pick up a now dollsize Mike with one hand and lifted him up into the air while Anna and Brad disappeared into the nearest room. He narrowed his eyes into a hardened warning glare as he stood at the entrance of the hallway, "Hey don't you fucking dare Sean. Put Mike back down right now."
"And what if I don't?" Sean dared with a calm yet dangerious smile, "I'm not gonna let you and your rich buddies ruin my hard earned retribution."
"You're fucking crazy," Joe said as adrenaline rushed through his bloodstream, "Mike has never done anything to you."
"On the contrary Joe he's done plenty of things to me. There's so many I don't even know where to start," Sean exclaimed with wild boisterous laughter, "Point is, Mike is gonna get the comeuppance he deserves!"
Then in a blink of an eye Sean bolted like hell down the opposite direction.
Joe growled and immediately ran after Sean with Rob not to far behind him.
Dave wanted to help rescue Mike but just as he began to follow them, he felt himself being pulled back via his shirt by Mark.
"It's too risky for you Dave. You don't have any magic and Sean is one of those guys that don't play fair."
"I-you're right but we have to do something. Mike is in danger," Dave said with the same amount of sheer panic that Mark felt.
"I know-I know," Mark agreed with an apologetic demeanor. Like Dave he really didn't want to dilly dally around, he wanted to do something to actually help. But he also doesn't want another buddy of his to get hurt. Thankfully it was only one deep breath later to calm his nerves before he took control of the situation, "Ok I got it. Dave, you call Chester and Talinda. I'm gonna sanction this area off to keep Anna and Brad extra safe and I'll take care of the crowd."
"Alright," Dave said with a determined nod as Mark ran back out into the gym.
He swiftly grabbed his phone from his back pocket, flipped it opened and sent a coded text message they all agreed on ages ago to use when shit has gone pear shaped.
In the background he can hear Mark and another person helping him evacuate the people out of the school.
(Dave reckoned Mark also made sure to have the crowd forget what happened as witches aren't exactly completely accepted in mainstream society yet.)
Thankfully it wasn't long before the air rippled in the space in front of him and both Chester and Talinda appeared.
"Tell me everything that happened," Chester said in a calm but tense voice as he grabbed Dave's shoulder.
And Dave did with no hesitation. Basically Rob told him Sean shrunk Mike in some weird revenge move while Anna and Brad were caught alongside him as collateral damage.
"Sean kidnapped Mike. Joe and Rob ran after him and I don't know where Anna and Brad is," Dave finished.
"Which way did they go?!" Chester asked, desperate to help rescue Mike from the clutches of an straight up asshole.
Dave pointed to his right and, like a bat out of hell, Chester ran and disappeared around a corner in no time.
"I'm too afraid to move around too much, I don't know where the other two are and I don't want to accidentally hurt them," Dave said, very much worried as he faced Talinda, "Is there a spell you can use to locate them?"
"I could but phone works faster. Anna always has it with her when she's out of the house," Talinda pointed out as she dialed in Anna's number and brought her phone up to her ear.
For the next several seconds she talked to Anna as Dave awaited with bated anticipation. In the meantime he glanced around and saw there was a couple of nearby classrooms, a storage room and a library. He wasn't sure what room would make sense for them to run towards but any of the four would make the most sense. Just depended on where they were when Sean shrunk them.
Eventually Talinda rushed over to the nearest classroom and opened the door, "Were you able to hear that?….Oh thank god ok we're coming to get you, just stay put."
She disconnected the phone and beckoned Dave over to help her rescue Anna and Brad.
Meanwhile on the other side of the school grounds Rob and Joe ended up chasing Sean out onto the football field. The two sides were stuck in a standoff as Sean stared at them menacingly and laughed which then faded into an ominous grin, "You two idiots realize I can just teleport right? I can go halfway across the world and you wouldn't know where I landed. Or better yet-OW!"
Sean then immediately loosen his grip which subsequently caused Mike to fall towards the ground.
It was now when things moved into action.
The two reacted quickly. Joe dashed forward in order to catch Mike in his hands. He brought him into a protective embrace against his chest as he backed up.
Simultaneously Rob has sent Sean flying high into the air at high speed with a well planted psychic blast to the chest.
"Go back inside and join the others. I'll take care of him," Rob instructed. He spared a second glance at Joe before he locked eyes on Sean on the other side of the field.
Joe nodded and headed back to the building, however at the same time Chester burst through the doors.
"I got Mike," Joe said much to the other man's great relief as they met halfway, "I'm gonna take him to safety."
"Are you alright?" Chester asked sweetly with a concerned tone as he gently rubbed Mike's back.
Thankfully Mike didn't look any worse then visibly shaken. He nodded and then Chester shifted his attention to Joe, "I'll go help Rob kick Sean's ass, hopefully we'll be done sooner then later."
Months passed and the newcomers settled in and fitted in the group so well they might've as well been there forever. They all got along like peas in a pod. It really didn't take them very long to get into the swing of things, Alex and Colin found a new coffee person in Chester to extol the wonders of the golden nectar that is, well, coffee while Emily got right into learning how to really use her powers.
(Emily also found an partner in crime with Chester when it came to pulling harmless pranks and whatnot together. They both exuded much of the same chaotic energy together.)
And along the way the whole topic of relationship naturally came up. The original members of the coven were revealed to be in one big polyamorous relationship. And there was heathy amounts of communications all around which was quite refreshing to be honest, if there was an issue within the relationship or something has changed then the parties involved would talk it out. With no hard feelings afterwards to boot.
Or that seemed to be case as far as they knew. In the time since the newcomers joined there has been one or two of those serious kind of talks and everyone left still friends as ever. Nobody acted like they either wanted to kill each other or begrudedly tolerated one another as it so often the case with their experiences in the past. Nobody left the coven over any spats either as they all genuinely wanted to stay and make things work.
Of course if any one member wanted to leave for any reason, they'd be free to do so.
"…I know it sounds kinda overwhelming at first-" Talinda said apologetic one day in the living room. Emily wanted to bring up something sooner then later and had just admitted to having a crush on both her and Anna.
This led to Talinda explaining that put simply, they all fuck each other, "-The gist is we're all in a big polycule but some of us are on a friend's with benefit basis with someone else outside of the coven. Like Joe sometimes quote unquote meet up with Karen and Heidi whenever they're in town. And Chester would do the same with Elka once in a while, sometimes I join them for a threesome."
"And you guys know about that?" Emily's eyes widen in pleasant surprise. A younger her would've admittedly been skeptical if anyone actually practiced what they preached about communication.
She since realized otherwise, but still it was always nice to get yet another evidence of an actual healthy relationship.
"Oh yeah," Talinda nodded to assuage any worries she may have, "Open communication is the key. They know about us. Everyone involved in one way or another knows about the rest."
"That's nice to hear. My last relationship didn't turn out so good, she cheated on me half the time we were together for several years. Lied about it too."
"Some of us also have had bad relationships in the past. Chester had an ex he was briefly married too for a few years when he was young and she was crazy to say the least. So was an ex of mine."
After that it was a few days before there was serious activity in the groupchat. Chester started it off with a question of the NSFW variety, flash forward about 20 minutes later and a sex session was planned. Emily at this point was grateful she was settled into life here enough to freely mention what she wanted and what she didn't.
There was no fear whatsoever of any sort weirdness due to her being a lesbian.
Which was a fucking godsend. Another confirmation that these folks were nothing but genuinely goodhearted people who can act normal around someone like her.
Or Colin and Alex too seeing how they're both bi.
So that night she found herself in one of the many available bedrooms with Talinda and Anna while the boys were in another. Thanks to the infinite space spell put in place so long ago, the coven could use a separate bedroom or two specifically for nighttime acitivites.
("Sometimes we don't want to make a mess of our actual bedrooms, or make it more messy then it already is. So we just come down here. Easier that way," Anna had explained as they walked down the hallway to one of the designated sex rooms.)
"Oh my god that was fucking amazing," Emily said breathlessly, staring up at the ceiling as she laid naked under the covers in a lovetruck daze. Next to her was Talinda and in between was Anna shrunk to all of six inches. Both were the same level of dress as she was."I don't even remember the last time I had sex like that."
"Yeah, I'm glad it was enjoyable," Talinda smiled sweetly while lazily massaging Anna's back with a delicate finger.
(This elicited a pleasurable noise from Anna before exhaustion took over and she fell asleep.)
"You can top the shit out of me anytime."
Emily's admission caused Talinda to laugh out loud, "I've been told I'm good at that, mostly by Anna and Mike but still."
The two shared a short round of quiet chuckles before it died out into a blissful silence. Emily turned over to her side facing Talinda.
"You can massage her back if you want. She doesn't mind," Talinda said with a sincere smile as she stared at Anna.
Emily stared at her with uncertainty in her voice, "You sure?"
Talinda nodded confidently as she shifted her gaze to Emily, "Yeah. She's fine with it don't worry, just be careful obviously."
"Right yeah," Emily agreed as she gently placed a hand over their tiny little partner and rubbing her thumb up and down in a soothing motion.
The two fell into a contended silence. A cozy peacefulness filled the air around them, it made them just wanted to do what Anna was doing and take a well deserved rest. They could just spend the night here even. Won't be the first time.
"I'm glad I thought to use a spell to soundproof the room," Talinda casually brought up after several seconds has passed, "The boys tend to go all out with their role plays, noise level included."
Emily burst out in mild laughter before it faded away in the form of a quiet exhale.
"I would like to try and role-play sometime," She admitted and Talinda nodded.
"We can do that. Anna likes it cause it gives her a chance to play being an actress without the negative aspects of it."
"I get that."
A moment passed before Talinda added, "Well I'm glad you enjoyed this session."
"Yeah," Emily said with a big satisfied smile. She was grateful to finally had the chance to experiment and see where she landed kink wise. Of course its gonna be a work in progress but at least she had a good start, "I never really got the chance to go beyond vanilla with anyone else."
They could've kept the conversation going, and Emily wanted to tell Talinda what kinks she wanted to try in the future, but right now the layer of exhaustion grew thick and the two were pulled into a peaceful sleep in no time flat.
