Out of the ordinary
Special day
In the small town of Monrovia[my hometown], there are these ordinary schools. And in these ordinary schools, they were filled with ordinary students. But in one of these schools, there was a boy who felt that he wasn't ordinary at all. A boy of 14, appeared average to others. He was fairly tall, about 5'6 in height, had jet black hair which was kept in spikes. His eyes were deep brown. His skin, almost tan. He also wore glasses. At school, he was known as outgoing, funny, smart, creative, and semi-popular. The teachers thought of him as an excellent student. Everything seemed perfect. but it wasn't.
~*A YEAR BEFORE*~
"Joey, get up. Your gonna be late for school" yelled mom
"Mom, how many times have I told you. I don't wanna be called 'Joey' anymore!"
"Fine, Joe, hurry up."
I rushed out of bed and got dressed as fast as I could. Today was a special day. Why is it special, you ask. It's because today's my birthday. The day I finally become a teenager. I pulled on my Foo Fighters shirt and my faded jeans. After I had finished getting dressed, i ran downstairs where I was greeted by my mother.
"Takes you that long to get dressed birthday boy?" she asked playfully. "Ok, remember, the party's gonna start at 4 pm. You can invite a few of your frieds, but not too much got it?"
"Yeah, yeah, I know." I said. Happiness shone in my eyes. I was just too excited.
At school, I was greeted by a big ass crowd.
"Happy Birthday To You, Happy Birthday To you..." they sang.
My two best friends, Brad and Chester, struggled to get past the crowd.
"Happy birthday dude," exclaimed Chester.
"Yeah, I'm now gonna be left all alone, seeing that I'm still 12" said Brad.
"Dude, don't be like that. Especially today. Your birthday's coming up in a few months. Before you know it, it's your birhtday." I told him.
"Joe, do you always have to be sentimental?" asked an annoyed Chester.
Just then, the prettiest girl of the school, Sharon, walked up to me.
"Hey, Joey."she said in her sexy silky voice, "I heard to day was your birthday."
Oh god, she batted her long eyelashes. That's so hot!
"Y-yeah, it i-is," I stammered. Fuck, I thought to my self, I sound like such a dork.
"Well then, happy birthday." she said. And with that, she walked off to another group of girls, supposedly her friends.
"Well well well" said Chester.
"What?" I asked, trying to mask my embarassment with confusion.
"You like her, don't you Joey?" taunted Brad.
"N-no I don't"
"Ha! Yes you do. If you didn't, why are your cheeks turnig red?"
"Yeah and why did you stamer?"
Frusterated by their questions, I walked off, away from them.
"Aww, c'mon, we just wanted to mess with you man!" Yelled Brad.
~*LATER THAT DAY*~
Music was heard at the Hahn residence, as guests began to arrive. Joe was still a bit grumpy with his friends.
"Joe, you know we were just messing with ya right?" asked Brad.
"Right?" echoed Chester.
"Yeah, I know. I just don't like it when you guys make fun of me like that." replied Joe.
As the day continued on into the night, Joe began feeling wierd. He saw his mom and told her.
"Mom, do I look sick to you?"
"Do you feel sick?"
"Yeah"
She checked hi temperature. Normal. Questioned him on what he had eaten before he came home.
"At lunch, I had pizza, Gatorade, and a cookie" Joe simply answered.
"Maybe you should just rest in your room."
Joe marched slumly into his room. As he entered in his grey-painted room, he spotted his suffed frog on top of his computer. He grabbed it and started to play with it out of boredom. After awhile, Joe started getting sleepy.
~*DREAM*~
I was at this funeral, and i wasn't sure who's it was. Everyone there was mourning[duh]. I saw my mom crying over the casket. I assumed that I knew this person, couse I know all of my parents friends. After everyone had left, I decided to see who it was. I approached the casket cautiousley, for some reason. That was when all things that were happy was drained out of me. The person reposing in the casket was my very own grandfather. My eyes flooded in tears. He was my very best friend. He understood me. Any problem that came hurdling in my direction, I would ak him for help. He knew how to handle it. As I had collaped onto the floor, I heard a voice.
"Joe, listen to me. This is your grandpa speaking."
Huh, I thought. Am I hallucinating?
"No Joe, you're not hallucinating. I have to tell you something that is very important. I have powers. Powers that were used to help the betterment of mankind."
This is crazy, I thought. How can he have powers. No one in the world can have powers, except for imaginary freaks.
"Hey, don't you call me an imaginary freak"
Holy shit, this is true.
"Like I said, I had powers that were to he;p the betterment of mankind. And after I'm gone, my powers are going directly to you"
"But why me?" I finally spoke up.
"Because I died after your birthday. The proficy said that if the current all-powerful one died after a person's birthday, the person shall recieve his or her's powers"
"And what happens if they don't die after someone's birthday?" I asked with curiosity.
"Then we will have to wait 50 years for another to be born. So, it is very important that an all-powerful one is to die after a persons birthday. Especially one of a relaive's. That way, the longer it stay's in the family, the stronger the powers become. But, these powers come with great responsibility and consequences if misused. I trust that you are able to keep your new found powers on the uh, how you kids say 'down low'."
At this I laugh
"I'll try"
And with that, everything started to fade.
